The Saint Michael's Chapel is a tiny stone chapel nestled high up on the mountain of Monte Iratingo, in the village of Serra da Estrela in Portugal. The chapel, which was originally constructed in 1559 as a hermitage for monks, has been rebuilt and restored numerous times over the centuries due to its precarious location. In 1818, the chapel's stone structure collapsed, forcing the rebuilding process to begin anew. After completing the repairs, the new chapel had a sturdier structure that could withstand the harsh mountain weather conditions.
