Saint Margaret
myminifactory
The statue originated from the parish church of St Germain near Troyes. It's a prime example of exceptional sculpture executed in Troyes during the early sixteenth century. St Margaret is depicted with her symbol, the dragon. Expectant mothers invoked her protection during childbirth due to her miraculous escape from a dragon's belly. St Margaret stands with her hands clasped together in prayer. A winged dragon facing left bites at her robe between her feet. The finely cut flower bandeau holding back her hair draws attention, which falls in flowing curls over her shoulder.
