This relief was perhaps designed for the west front of the Church of Sainte-Foy together with two other reliefs: Isaiah and The Annunciation. Here we can see Saint John the Baptist holding a scroll with a text on it. The text is taken from St. John’s Gospel [1, 36]: “Behold the Lamb of God”. This text heralded the coming of the Messiah. Acareful examination of the original work made in 1956 at the request of the museum revealed traces of polychromy.
