These groundbreaking institutions, by today's medical standards, were truly modern, offering not only care but also innovative treatment options. Each hospital was staffed with a doctor, pharmacist, skilled nurses, and chaplains who worked together as a team to provide top-notch care. The patients were categorized according to their illnesses and assigned individual beds. City's vision inspired a group of like-minded individuals to join him, forming the foundation of the Hospitaller Order, which received its first official recognition in 1572. Today, this order is active in over 50 countries worldwide, honoring the legacy of St John of God, a true pioneer in his field who remains the patron saint of hospitals, patients, and healthcare professionals.
