Saint Dominic

Saint Dominic, a fragment from an altarpiece, is attributed to the workshop of Master Arnt, who was active in Kalkar between 1476 and 1484, and passed away in Zwolle in 1492. The piece is housed at the Musée du Cinquantenaire in Brussels, Belgium. Made with ReMake and ReCap Pro software from Autodesk. The founder of the Dominican order steps on a dog with his right foot. According to tradition, Dominica's mother had a dream that she would give birth to a dog holding a torch in its mouth, which was set ablaze. This attribute highlights a word play referencing Saint Dominic's Latin name, "Domini Canis," meaning the Lord's Dog. Follow me on Twitter at @GeoffreyMarchal for more updates.
