Saint Denis de Paris
myminifactory
Saint Denis de Paris, Brabant (?), Early 16th century, walnut, original polychromy still evident. Musée du Cinquantenaire (Brussels, Belgium). Created with ReMake and ReCap from Autodesk. In the 3rd century, Pope sends St. Denis to Gaul to convert local Gentiles. He becomes Paris's first bishop, but dies a few years later, decapitated. Legend has it that he picks up his severed head and carries it from Montmartre to the burial site of his choice. This is where the basilica of St. Denis was built, housing the tombs of France's monarchs. Follow me on Twitter at @GeoffreyMarchal for the latest updates.
