Saint Catherine of Alexandria, also known as Saint Katharine of Alexandria and The Great Martyr Saint Catherine, is a Christian saint and virgin who was martyred in the early 4th century by the pagan emperor Maxentius. She was a princess and a scholar, converting to Christianity at age 14, winning hundreds of people to her faith, and being martyred around age 18. Over 1,100 years after Catherine's death, Joan of Arc identified her as one of the saints who guided and counseled her. The Eastern Orthodox Church honors her as a Great Martyr, celebrating her feast day on November 24 or 25, depending on regional tradition. In Catholicism, she is revered as one of the Fourteen Holy Helpers.
