Saint Anthony of Padua, a renowned Portuguese Catholic priest and friar of the Franciscan Order, was born Fernando Martins de Bulhões in 1195. He was raised by a wealthy family in Lisbon, where he spent his early life. Later, Anthony died on June 13, 1231, in Padua, Italy. Famed for his compelling preaching and in-depth knowledge of scripture, he was rapidly canonized as a saint after Peter of Verona. On January 16, 1946, Anthony was proclaimed a Doctor of the Church. He is also revered as the patron saint of locating lost objects or people.
