Sailrite-Compatible Magnetic Sewing Guide
thingiverse
This Sailrite-compatible magnetic sewing guide was created by Donald L. Merand for Explo using his 3D printer. It works similarly to the original Sailrite Deluxe 5-1/2" Magnetic Sewing Guide but requires magnets of specific size to fit into the holes on its base. The maker used 1/2" by 1/8" rare-earth magnets from Lee Valley, which he found to be the cheapest source. The model is fully parametric in Onshape and comes with two STL files - one with dimensions similar to Sailrite's, and another that measures 3 1/2", suitable for smaller machines or stitches. The original design was made using Tinkercad, which can be edited online. Print settings include a printer brand of Printrbot Simple Black, no rafts or supports, a resolution of 0.2mm, 20% infill, and recommendations for PLA printing with a heated bed at 65C and blue tape to improve adhesion.
