Sailing Ship, 28mm Scale
thingiverse
Welcome aboard my sailing ship! Thanks for taking a look at this thing, I hope you like it! This design is 100% mine, straight from my own imagination, and probably wouldn't make a very seaworthy ship in real life. The model is massive, nearly 24 inches long and 6 inches wide. I built this ship during our gaming group's adventure into Saltmarsh. We finished the book before this ship was done, and now I need to figure some things out. My inspiration for this comes from fond memories of sailing with friends out of Newport, RI and the Carolinas, practice with lofting, and learning more about naval architecture and sailing ship construction. Trust me, there's a ton to learn. I barely scratched the surface. Here are the general specifications: Scale: 30 mm = 5 ft (slightly oversized for 28mm scale miniatures, their height still won't fit between decks with it all stacked) LOA: 120 ft Beam: 40 ft Main deck, fore and aft decks, cabin, hold, and bilge decks, capturing most of what the Sea Ghost had. Two mast, junk rigged Ketch, fixed bulb keel Nose bulb, because it's cool looking and large ships in real life use them to reduce drag in the water, thus increasing their efficiency and speed while under way For tabletop gaming, specs as follows: Based on a generic Warship from PHB / DMG Minimum crew: 20 Ideal crew: 40 (I'm using generic Orc Lego men, they fit nicely) Officers: Captain, First Mate, Bowson, Just a Cook (ideally a monk with the Guild Artisan background for cooks / brewers. Make sure he's named Stephen or similar), Medic, others as needed / deemed necessary Three Ballista (Please help me make some awesome magi-tech, Ebberon inspired ballista!) Two Mangonel (Please also help me make some awesome magi-tech, Ebberon inspired these things, too! Please!) Cargo capacity is 170 tons Speed is 4-5, maybe 6 if you make a very convincing case for that cool nose bulb Did I miss anything? What's Done: 1. Main body, all decks; Rudder 2. Print verification 3. Initial fit-up 4. First deck magnets installed (I love magnets, they're so useful!) What Needs Doing: 1. Optimize files for efficient printing on a standard 220 X 220 bed (Please help if you can!) 2. Masts - I intend to use wooden dowels 3. Sails, rigging, etc. 4. Ballista, Mangonel 5. Finish magnets 6. Paint
