Hi, this is a DIY forward (frontal) sonar anti collision system, a technology that is being developed for commercial ships and should work better than OSCAR system because that system even if it works and it's one step in the right direction, it only maps the surface while there are semi submerged containers and debris, and cetaceans and reefs. In contrast this system can be affordable and short range with low power consumption It can use a DIY sonar, or a cheap fishfinder or used depth transducers with arduino or other board that can be hooked trough signal-K using Pypilot or similar open source autopilot, making an alarm or course correction, with automatic reefing if necessary For example with 140m of range a sailboat that cruises at 10 knots or 5km/s has 28 seconds of response with an Alarm or automated system. The sensor can make sweeps or be static while being placed at 4, 3 or 2 meters depending of the bathymetry in a centreboard, daggerboard or front rudder ( that should be liftable and floatable with weak breaking point and pierced with safety rope to be recovered in case of collision with an unidentified small object) so the sensor has less interference from the hull signature and with wave reflection. The sonar beam could be narrow with automated sweeps or static with larger azimuth and altitude, and this can be modified with a small parabolic dish that could also be incorporated in a ballast-less bulb. This sonar should be capable of identify cetaceans, uncharted reefs and metal containers and if possible large tree logs that often scape from the rivers and join the ocean currents, and also small objects. Offshore racing boats and cruisers have collisions with debris, containers, cetaceans (that wander or are sleeping near the surface), unchartered reefs, etc, what can mean injured or dead cetaceans, catastrophic failure, lost appendages and sinking and there's not an international database for cruising boats accidents and this information has been partially disclosed by some racing boats events. And so this sonar system should be incorporated to OpenCPN with a frontal sonar display and the uncharted reefs being updated to a database for the charts All the data from with different encounters should be edited by hand with comments and displayed in a map that would be transmitted trough signal-k betweens boats, by radio protocol or downloadable data from satellite internet and so it should be a debris perimeter notification for all the boats in the area in the case of containers, logs, etc or a whale area ( that also should be notified to oceanography institutions) in Open CPN. Also there should be a way to deal with the debris and to notify authorities to pick and tow logs or take action by ourselves to manually sink the containers with some protocol or some sort of tagging and live or updated map visualization there are several papers about the matter -Obstacle detection, avoidance and anti collision for MEREDITH AUV 2009 -Collision avoidance passive sonar 2013 -Research on Deep Sea Sonar in Marine Navigation of the Ship Anti Collision 2014 -The Concept of Anti-Collision System for Underwater Vehicles Based on Forward Looking Sonar 2018 -Research on Collision Avoidance Method Based on Image Recognition Technology 2019 -Determination of Process Noise for Underwater Target Tracking with Forward Looking Sonar 2021 -The Algorithm of Determining an Anti-Collision Manoeuvre Trajectory Based on the Interpolation of Ship’s State Vector 2021 the 3D model in sketchup's .skp file is here https://3dwarehouse.sketchup.com/model/039efe73-3ed4-4c88-8671-a632f29699a9/sailing-boat-forward-sonar-for-collision-avoidance tags: sailboat, yacht, ship, sistema anticolision, velero, barco, nizam mudadun liltasadum, qarib, murakab shiraei, Fáng pèngzhuàng xìtǒng, Chuán, Fānchuán, système anti-collision, bateau, voilier
