Sailboat

Sailors will look at this and laugh. I have not prototyped this and many design challenges would face anyone who does so. But the design seeks to resolve some of the problems that people face when sailing on small, weedy, wind-direction-challenging lakes, with docks designed for motorboats. This boat has no bow or stern. Sailing close to tree-lined shores, winds keeps changing directions putting conventional sailboats in ‘irons’. Since the boat has no bow or stern, ‘irons’ is no more. Short motorboat docks are not sailboat friendly. Try backing a sailboat and you will know why a sailboat without a bow or stern would be nice. Many folks who live near small lakes are comfortable on pontoon boats. They see pictures of heeling sailboats and are immediately hesitant to consider a sailboat ride. This design is more like a pontoon boat and may make non-sailors more relaxed. This boat is not expected to go fast. But maybe someone will work out the problems with the design to the point that good times will be had. - Peter
