A safety valve functions based on the principle that an obstructing component, like a stem, screw or spring, presses the valve against its seating area due to external force or weight. When boiler pressure-induced steam force surpasses this external constraint, the valve is lifted from its position, allowing some steam to escape until normal pressure is reestablished.
