This box will hold all of your valuables (plans or money). It requires a toothed key to open it. I have included the important gear, the frame, the frame top, the safe part, and the key. This should be interesting to print out, I hope the overhangs will work because they are just cylindrical. My printer got shipped!!!!! This is the first thing I'm going to build! Anyone who wants to improve this design with a better gear or whatever, feel free but be sure to give Conrad2468 credit for the idea. Hope you enjoy this!
Update: For anyone who prints this before I do, if it doesn't support the overhang I have another that you will have to drill/Dremel out. Also, The images may look like crap but once you download them they will show up alot better because thingiverse renders these things way too large
Instructions
Print out the frame or "safe" you will see 2 small "windows" CAREFULLY Dremel those out. Once Dremeled out you can move on to the sprocket. Since the sprocket is so small, I figured overhangs wouldn't be too much of a problem but if they is I would like someone to fix it because I spent way too much time on just the sprocket part of this project and can't figure it out! Print it out and place it on the rod in between the two "windows". After printing the sprocket, print out the box top. This is the simplest part of the build. After printing the top print the safe box. DO NOT CUT THE LITTLE PEGS OFF OF IT! The pegs help the box move in and out. After the safe box print out the key. Again DO NOT CUT OR SAND DOWN THE PEGS (yet). After all of your shapes are printed and you test fitted the parts to make sure the "teeth" of the box and the "teeth" of the key move the gear without any problems. If there are problems simply trim the teeth down or whatever you need done with the Dremel. Just be sure the teeth still "grip" the sprocket. Once everything works properly, push the box in (open end inside of the safe) and either add some filament through the hot glue gun to secure the top or melt the safe perimeter to secure the top, its your choice. After that is accomplished, you are now ready to enjoy your safe. simply insert the key ("teeth" facing the box and down) and the box should slide smoothly out. I'm not sure if the box will freely slide in and out of the safe but hopefully it wont (unless you insert the key).
