Saddle Quern, Jarlshof, Shetland

Saddle Quern, Jarlshof, Shetland

sketchfab

This sub-rectangular saddle quern and oblong rubber are remnants from the Iron Age. Situated in the 'Broch Courtyard and Aisled House' area of Jarlshof, they were unearthed in this exact location. The quern is now fragmented into two parts. These ancient tools would have been employed to crush grain, but it's uncertain if they were used simultaneously, as their stones appear to be distinct varieties.
