Saddle Mounted Compost Basket

Saddle Mounted Compost Basket

The Urban Composter was born out of necessity, as I sought a way to store compostable items like banana peels after a post-bike ride snack, without littering the downtown Toronto streets. This compact compost bin offers an aerated, secure and convenient means of carrying compostable waste while commuting. The basket's top portion attaches directly to the saddle, allowing for easy removal and reattachment by unscrewing it from the mount. The extendable mount accommodates rear racks, baskets and seats that are positioned low on the frame. My example Urban Composter was printed using black PLA filament from Printrbot for the main structure, while the base was crafted with natural HD Glass from FormFutura, a food-safe PETG filament similar to water bottles. Each component is designed for convenient printing, utilizing 30% or higher infill and minimizing support structure requirements. The Compost Lid alone requires support structure, but all files can be laid flat to reduce or eliminate it altogether. Two Mount Bolts are needed to complete the mounting hardware.
