Sacramento Tower Bridge
sketchfab
The Tower Bridge now stands in place of the old M Street Bridge from 1911 in Sacramento, originally a swing through-truss railroad bridge.\nInitially designed to accommodate a 52 ft wide roadway with sidewalks and single lanes for cars on either side of a large 13-foot center lane dedicated exclusively to trains.[4] The two towers soar 160 ft high into the air. From east to west, the bridge is comprised of a 30 ft long girder span, a 167 ft long eastern truss approach span, the 209 ft central lift span, a 193 ft long western approach span and four 34 ft long girder spans. When lifted up, there is an impressive 100 feet of vertical clearance above high water with a 172-foot wide navigation channel between the timber pier fenders. Despite its heavy weight at 1,150 short tons, the use of equal counterweights in each tower allows the lift span to be operated with just two relatively small 100-horsepower electric motors.[4]
