Sabrina, Goddess of the Britons, is a bronze statue crafted by William Calder Marshall, situated on Roosevelt Island in NYC near the Octagon Building's northwestern corner. The original 1847 plaster version has long been replaced with a 300-pound bronze duplicate owned by Amherst College since its donation in 1857. Despite being passed between administrators and student groups multiple times, Sabrina remains a prized possession, often sparking intense battles between even-year and odd-year classes. Traditionally, this rivalry results in the statue being subjected to reckless treatment - it has been thrown down wells, flown over sporting events, and decapitated. Currently, the original's whereabouts are unknown, but this replica serves as a fitting tribute to the river goddess, providing her with a serene view of the water.
