I was not able to finish this in it's entirety, but there is enough here to show the nature of the concept. It would have a light spring inside the central sliding shaft which would raise the top dish cover up when released from below. The advantage of my design is that it is designed to slam shut (automatically; w/ simple release mechanism) should a wave crash over the deck. It also allows for maximum ventilation in the fully upright position, while a half way position is more just a way to equalize pressure while protecting from overspray. While on that subject I will mention that the funky thing in-between the base and the top; is a rubber gasket. This protects from splash & spray, but neatly compresses upon closing the top. There is more to do with this but, I think you will find it better than the current design for a number of reasons. I think the automatic close function is a key feature, and I have designed this to not get stuck with saltwater build-up; as requested. Materials are to be determined; but I see it either being made as stamped stainless or composite materials. Upon further discussion I could cater the design based on manufacturing costs, and optimize it for production. Hope You Like It!
