Originally designed as a partnership between SAAB and Fairchild, the Saab SF-340 (later renamed Saab 340A) first flew on January 25, 1983, with production continuing after Fairchild's exit in 1985. However, sales declined by the late '90s, and production was ultimately cancelled in 1998.
