SAAB and Fairchild developed the aircraft jointly. Production occurred in Linkoping, Sweden. The Saab SF 2000 took flight in 1992, and the last aircraft was delivered in 1999. A total of 63 aircraft were built in all. As of 2016, a total of 35 Saab 2000s remained in airline service worldwide.
