S800 Tool-less Removable Wingtips
thingiverse
Detachable winglets for the FPV wing Reptile S800. I didn't fancy using the integrated nuts and bolts one as it seemed like added weight and complexity so I thought I'd go and make my own entirely 3D printed. Each side weighs about 8g fully fitted. This makes it much easier to transport the plane without knocking off the wingtips accidentally! This uses a long V rail type design with a small notch on the back. The winglet rail slots back to front with slight tension, when fully engaged the notch on the trailing edge will lock it in relieving the tension and holding it in place. To remove, you have to flex the end of the print notch while also sliding. It's a bit difficult but it's better than it randomly falling off! You should print 4 models for a full plane. Wing + Body model, and then Mirrored Wing and Mirrored Body. The rails should be glued in to the foam, I've added a few short prongs on the model to push into the foam. This stops the wingtips getting knocked off accidentally. You will need to depress the foam a little bit to allow the prongs to get into the foam with the print itself or a pencil. There are some templates to align for the holes for a drillbit included if you want to be precise. **Print prongs down, with rails facing up. Use supports. This will make the rails print best.** The rails are very close in tolerance. The initial fit may be very tight but after a few fittings it will loosen. If your printer has a lax tolerance expect to sand or scale the models a bit.
