The S.T.O.W. is a clamp that allows the user to store a 20 round STANAG magazine under the MFT (BMS) stock for the Ar15. The MFT is a popular stock due to it's light weight and minimalist size, but leaves wasted space for those used to the sillhouette of the standard Ar15 stock. The acronym S.T.O.W. stands for STANAG TWENTY, ON-WEAPON, as it is only compatible with vietnam era 20 round stanag magazines. (10 round California compliant magazines may or may not fit). The S.T.O.W. adds valuable utility in the othrwise wasted space under the MFT, and counterbalances an otherwise front heavy gun.It allows the user to maintain 20 rounds of reserve ammunition on the weapon at all times, somewhat similar to a shotgun's side saddle. The S.T.O.W. is only compatible with STANAG 20 round magazines, as the clamp seats in the 6mm radius of the strengthening rib stamped into the magazine, and sits just forward of the angled floorplate. A 30 round standard STANAG magazine is too long, and has a flat floorplate, which will become caught between the two clamps. It is not compatible with any polymer magazine.
