S Maria Quartiere Parma
sketchfab
Santa Maria del Quartiere stands out as a stunning Baroque-style church situated in the heart of Parma's Oltretorrente quarter, Italy. The church was constructed between 1604 and 1619 on the site of a pre-existing chapel dedicated to Mary, strategically located within the city walls where troops were historically quartered, earning it its name. Renowned Ferrarese architect Giovan Battista Aleotti is credited with designing this magnificent structure. Notably, the church's nave deviates from the conventional post-Reformation rectangular design, instead adopting a unique centralized hexagonal plan.
