The Ryuko no Geki's Spear Mode design is based on the Guandao, the glaive of Guan Yu, the legendary general who went on to be revered as the God of War; while the Axe Mode closely resembles the Qinglong Ji, a form of halberd. The post-finisher announcement is derived from the Chinese word 再见 (Zàijiàn) meaning "Goodbye". The "Extra" (エクストラ Ekusutora) portion of Don Torabolt's transformation announcement is a pun on how the Japanese pronunciation of the word contains "Tora" (虎), which means "tiger".
