162173 Ryugu is a near-Earth object and a potentially hazardous asteroid within the Apollo group. Measuring approximately one kilometer in diameter, this dark object exhibits qualities of both C-type asteroids and G-type asteroids. Its rare spectral type is classified as Cg. In June 2018, a spacecraft named Hayabusa2 arrived at Ryugu. The name refers to Ryūgū, a magical underwater palace from Japanese folklore, where the fisherman Urashima Tarō journeys on the back of a turtle and returns with a mysterious box, much like Hayabusa2 carrying samples.
