Ryobi Electric Lawn Mower Replacement Switch Assembly

The **Ryobi Cordless Electric Lawn Mower**, model RY40108, is an excellent lawn mower that suffers from poorly engineered safety interlock switches. A quick search of YouTube will show a large number of fixes to keep the lawnmower operational. I wanted a solution that would solve the problem without looking like a cheap hack. There are at least four safety interlock switches. There are two that weren't a problem in my mower so I left them alone. Those two are a switch that senses the handle position and another that senses the handle extension. The two I replaced were the start button and the run switch…the _deadman switch_ that turns the mower off if the bale on the handle is released. Both only worked intermittently because the moldings wouldn't hold the switches in the proper position to be fully depressed. To access the switches you'll need to remove the cover assembly on the handle. It is held in place with 10 T-20 _Torx_ fasteners. I removed the safety bale and relocated a replacement run switch, an SPST toggle, in an assembly designed to fit in place of the original push button for the start switch. I also replaced the original momentary contact normally open SPST toggle switch with a 1/4" mounting diameter push button SPST switch. I had the switches laying around, but there are similar switches available from Amazon.
