RV Roof Vent Stick

RV Roof Vent Stick

My wife is vertically challenged, so she had to lug out a step stool every time she wanted to open or close the manual roof vents. I saw an ad for a commercial stick kit and thought I could do even better. It takes one V3 printed part, a $10 selfie stick (expanding twist-lock or clamp type with a standard 1/4-20 camera mount; I found mine on Amazon ASIN: B01DY0A6E2) and a 1/4-20 nut. A dab of blue thread locker will make sure the nut never loosens up by accident. You can use it with or without the tightening knob that comes on the stick. The hole for the nut is a little tight, but I found that screwing it in pulled it into the hole without any issues - and it stayed there. I also included the V2 design which didn't have a captive nut and instead you use a tap to cut some threads. It works with Ventline style knobs. It might work with others as well. The hole is an attempt to make it work with the crank style, but I don't have one to test - and I suspect it may be a bit too small and probably not positioned optimally. If you have one that doesn't work and can give me a drawing and some dimensions to work with, send me a message. I found that you can close and tighten the vent just fine, however, if you over-tighten it, the selfie stick will go into its collapse/expand mode. I find I can close and tighten the vent just fine without that happening though.
