In the mid-sixties there was an increased interest in the field of oceanography and the advancement of underwater technologies. Deep submersible vehicles were developed at an accelerated rate with the contribution of several large corporations including Westinghouse Electric. Each of these DSVs were accompanied by a support vessel or tender. RV Midwife was tender to one of these DSVs, Deepstar-2000. The pair was uniquely designed to work in tandem with each other and the ocean; an attribute that no other DSV and tender would share. Barbour Boat Works Collection East Carolina University PID 20396
