Rutherford is a cutting-edge liquid-propellant rocket engine developed by Rocket Lab, a trailblazing aerospace company from the US and New Zealand.[7] The innovative engine was crafted in California[8] and relies on LOX and RP-1 as its fuel sources, making it the first flight-ready engine to employ an electric-pump feed cycle. It powers the Electron rocket designed by Rocket Lab, a state-of-the-art two-stage rocket equipped with a unique cluster of nine identical engines on the initial stage and one vacuum-optimized version boasting a longer nozzle on the subsequent stage.[5][6] The sea-level variant generates 24 kN (5,400 lbf) of propulsion and boasts an impressive specific impulse of 311 s (3.05 km/s), while its vacuum optimized-version produces identical thrust yet reaches a higher altitude-specific impulse of 343 s (3.36 km/s).[2] Project time stands approximately at 60-80 hours.
