Rusty Old Box Fan Knob
thingiverse
We have a number of aging Lasko box fans that need some TLC. One of the injection molded knobs has failed, becoming brittle and cracking easily. I decided to create a replacement knob in OnShape, which should last longer than the fan itself. Unfortunately, the switch underneath was not as simple as a D shape; it's much more intricate. I tried my best to replicate it and was concerned that the details were too small for my Prussa i3mk2 printer to reproduce properly. Fortunately, it works just fine. Check out this link to see the CAD file in Onshape: https://cad.onshape.com/documents/35be403c41f870f32c11c22b/w/d9c1fcdc714015c9e4a9224f/e/2b9c8e7b194f4e2942cccd14 Take note that the photo shows the pips I added to indicate the setting, but they are actually reversed. I fixed the model before posting it. For this project, I highly recommend using ABS, as it's less likely to crack and fail compared to PLA. However, PLA should still work just fine. To get a great print, be sure to orient the model with the top facing down. Support is not required.
