Russian Tower (cupola, onion dome) inspired by Saint Basil's Cat
pinshape
Cupola on Russian church tower crafted by mathematical model designed on OpenSCAD. The PHP script and OpenSCAD program are freely available. STL files for two colors are scaled up thirty times, shifted onto the 3D printer bed (using blender), and simplified/fixed manifoldness (using meshlab). Instructions I utilized Da Vinci 2.0, a 2 filament printer, with "russiantow-gx30fix" on green and "russiantow-rx30fix" on red. You can use any 3D CAD tool to mix two STL files if you'd like to use single color printer. If you'd like to change the design of the shape of "onion," adjust parameters, run PHP and redirect output to file "calcmesh.scad," then run "russiantow.scad." The parameters to decide tile design are described in "russiantow.scad."
