Russian soldier 1799 - facial reconstruction
sketchfab
The process involved in reconstructing the face of a Russian soldier who perished at the Battle of Castricum in 1799 is clearly outlined. Archaeologist Cor Prins unearthed the remains in 2013, buried deep within the dunes near Castricum, the Netherlands. In 1799, the armies of Russia and Great Britain fiercely clashed with those of France and the Batavian Republic, now known as the Netherlands. Physical anthropologist and reconstruction artist Maja d'Hollosy spearheaded the facial reconstruction, while Tijm Lanjouw/4D Research Lab handled the 3D scanning and modeling. The meticulously crafted reconstruction is now proudly displayed at the archaeological museum 'Huis van Hilde' in Castricum.
