The Buran Spacecraft, an orbital spaceplane of Soviet design, was a massive project in the 1980s that aimed to demonstrate the capabilities of reusable spacecraft. At 37 meters long and weighing over 70 tons, it was significantly larger than any other aircraft or spacecraft at the time. The Buran's primary mission was to test the feasibility of using spaceplanes for satellite deployment and retrieval, as well as conducting scientific research in low Earth orbit.
