The BTR-70, an eight-wheeled armored personnel carrier, was developed by the Soviet Union in the late '60s under manufacturing code GAZ-4905. Accepted into service on August 21, 1972, it was a potential successor to the BTR-60PB series and later widely exported. Romania produced large quantities under license as TAB-77. This vehicle evolved from an earlier, failed project called GAZ-50, which aimed to create a new wheeled infantry fighting vehicle based on a BTR-60PB's chassis and drivetrain. It was initially designated NATO reporting name BTR M1970. The vehicle has 13,644 vertices and 11,500 triangles.
