The RBU-6000 Smerch-2, a Soviet anti-submarine weapon rocket launcher with a 213 mm caliber, is reminiscent of the Royal Navy's Hedgehog system used during World War II. Entered service in 1960-61 and fitted to numerous Russian surface vessels, it features a horseshoe arrangement of twelve remotely directed launch barrels managed by the Burya fire control system that also oversees the RBU-1000's shorter range. Firing unguided RGB-60 depth charges, rockets are discharged in salvos of 1 to 12 rounds; automatic reloading feeds individual rounds from below deck magazines with typical capacities of 72 or 96 per launcher. Additionally, it serves as a shore bombardment system.
