When I caught wind of Runcam's swift release of the Micro Swift just weeks after the Mini, I couldn't help but crave one for myself. Having recently purchased a mini and observing the similarities between the two, I took matters into my own hands and designed a custom case/lens holder. Over time, I fine-tuned it to fit perfectly without sacrificing durability or size. Version 3 stands out as the most streamlined and compact option, while version 2 closely replicates the Runcam Micro shell size but has some minor light leakage after prolonged flight times. Version 1 also functions flawlessly but requires a slight redesign for optimal performance. I had initially intended to share my creation sooner, but life took an unexpected turn when I relocated to China for several years, limiting my opportunities to fly and print. Fortunately, I've since returned home and am now back in the swing of things. With that in mind, I'm excited to finally share this design with others who may find it useful. The design prints beautifully using PLA or PETG materials, but it's essential to slow down your print speed to ensure precise thread alignment – even then, some minor adjustments might be necessary. However, the results are well worth the extra effort. I've successfully printed these cases with 0.4mm and 0.3mm nozzles, and while a 0.5mm nozzle yielded decent results, you can experiment to find your preferred option. Supports played a crucial role in my print setup, as seen in the accompanying photo. To minimize thread-related issues, I recommend applying gentle heat to the lens before screwing it in for the first time. If threading proves challenging, try partially inserting the lens and then warming only the lens using a heat gun. Be cautious not to apply excessive heat, as this could cause the base to warp out of shape. By taking these precautions and fine-tuning your print settings, you should be able to achieve successful results with minimal hassle.
