sketchfab
Engelbourg Castle was constructed around 1224 by Count Frederic II of Ferette to safeguard the entrance to Thur Valley. It suffered significant damage a few centuries later during the Thirty Years' War and was deliberately destroyed by Louis XIV in 1673, as its strategic importance had diminished. The primary tower fragmented into multiple sections. The main structure collapsed onto its side, facing the town of Thann, and this phenomenon is known as the Witch's Eye, due to its eerie appearance staring at village rooftops and out across the horizon.\ncoordinates: 47.814833, 7.101000\nphotogrammetry from YouTube video
