Rugged Little Chain Chomp
thingiverse
I wanted a smaller chain chomp, so I sized the original down 70% (5cm diameter). I adjusted some of the clearances accordingly. To make certain parts of him more durable at this smaller size: 1) I redesigned the back dome piece to include a little cavity for you to loop some filament through and kink with the help of a heat source (e.g. a cig lighter or hair dryer). See picture. It has been united with the chain connector that was previously a separate piece. A filament change will allow you to achieve the appropriate look. 2)The teeth now come with an option to print flat on the build plate. 3)The two parts of the body connect with 4 pins. Push them into the larger section first (the holes are undersized), preferably with a pair of pliers, and later press the back on (which has greater clearance). See picture. 4)The post for the specular highlight in his eyes would be too small at this scale, so there is a hole to accept 1.75mm filament. Insert it and clip it flat with flush cutters (see picture). I have not included any model for a chain. You can go with the original chain chomp's stl or try the chain generator: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:28405 I would like to make a jig to create chain from 1.75 filament, and if I do I will update this description with a link (it will be a separate thing). Thank you to the original author for this cool dude and MyTechFun for the inspiration to try uniting sphere sections with pins (which are his stls, also available freely to download on his website)!
