Ruger MKII Charging Handle

Ruger MKII Charging Handle

This is simply a bolt racker designed specifically for the Ruger MKII pistol, offering a unique alternative to commercially available aluminum versions found online. The DIY approach allows for customization and cost-effectiveness. I've created a single tab version, which successfully fit and functioned, although it felt somewhat flimsy due to its prototype status. The initial design featured only one stop on the handle, but incorporating stops on both sides is expected to enhance rigidity and minimize flexibility. These bolt racks are not intended for permanent attachment; instead, they're designed to be cycled off after each use. To remove the racker, simply cycle the bolt and then move the charging handle aside. The purpose of the hole in the handle is to facilitate securement using a wrist tie if desired. The RING version boasts an opening diameter of 1.75 inches (44.45 mm), providing ample clearance for most users. I measured my index finger and middle finger together, which combined measure approximately 1.38 inches (35 mm) in width, ensuring plenty of room within the ring. Printer Settings: - Printer: Monoprice Maker Select - Rafts: No - Supports: Yes - Resolution: .25 - Infill: 50% - Notes: Two shells were used for added strength. If your printer excels at bridging, you may not require supports. For the stop, I employed a support type called "touching buildplate" in Cura. It's possible to print without any supports. The racker was printed using Makergeeks' Maker Series Urban Fossil PLA. A small allowance for shrinkage has been built into the design, but scaling shouldn't be necessary unless you're using a high-shrinkage plastic. Post-Printing: After printing, remove any supports if used and ensure a snug fit on your bolt. Depending on your printer's precision, minor cleanup might be required to achieve a precise fit. Looking Ahead: Future plans include designing a charging handle for the Ruger MK III 22/45 Lite pistol. Several handle styles are under consideration for potential future designs.
