Rudimentary phone / microscope ocular adapter (31-34mm OD)
prusaprinters

A rudimentary smartphone mount for a micro/stereoscope. The clamp is designed for an ocular with an outer diameter of 31-34mm. After seeing several microscope smartphone mounts I simply wanted to try without commitment (that is, least amount of plastic involved ;))

You'll also need:

Two M4 or 1/8" screws for the smartphone clamp (anything that reaches, really!)

Possibly one or two M3 or 3/32" screws for the ocular clamp (but just if too loose: mine doesn't need any)

Print it rough and print it fast: this one was printed at 0.3mm layers, 2 perimeters only, 10% grid infill and 3 top/bottom layers. It's truly bare-bone: adjustment is a bit cumbersome and could be better in several ways, but it worked on any phone we threw at it (with either central or top-left side camera).

Stability is pretty decent too despite the long lever arm: I didn't need to set any delay to take decent photos.

If you want something more fancy there are better designs available.

Consider this as an appetizer :)
Category: Learning
