These are a series of generic ‘jungle huts’, primarily made for use in Rubicon’s Oscar Mike Vietnam Wargame – but they can be used for any similar setting. Whilst there are a number of good MDF jungle hut style buildings on the market, we wanted something slightly larger, primarily with multiple entrances/exits and/or multiple room layouts, for more tactical play on the table. These are scaled at 28mm, (ideal for Rubicon’s superb Vietnam War miniatures range) and print in 3 basic sections: • Roof – this will print without supports. The roof and walls are designed so that the roof sits snugly but easily on top of the walls, with a slight recess in walls at the ends to accommodate the roof – it should not slide about but is easy to remove/replace during play. • Floor & walls – this is printed as a single piece. For the doors and windows I tended to add angled custom supports (using the Cura add on). However, I have also printed them without supports and by and large, they printed fine, (with perhaps just a little trim under the top of the door frame to remove any hanging strands). As mentioned, the roof sits snugly on top of the walls, held in position by a slight recess on the top of the wall in places. Depending on your printer’s tolerance, you may need to trim/file the recess back slightly to get a nice snug fit for the roof. • The pilings/stairs were similarly printed in two piecs for this Hut (to accommodate it on my print bed) and then glued to the underside of the floor, (positioning should be obvious as the stairs generally line up with the doors). They are a bit of a pain to print and tidy up though as they require supports for the cross beams and stairs, (I used Cura’s automatic Support generation, set at about 85 degrees). The pilings for this model are slightly long at the bottom as they were designed for the display demo table where they would be sunk about 5mm into the baseboard substrate to firmly fix them in place – so if you are planning to use them as free standing standalone buildings, then you may want to sink the pilings 5mm or so into the base plate, so they print slightly shorter overall. If you want an easier time of it, you could just print shorter independent pilings, so the huts are not raised so high and its just a single step up into them from ground level – I have included some separate pilings for this purpose under Hut 1. The walls are custom designed in Tinkercad – I created some modular pieces from which I could then quickly create multiple layouts. (At some point when I get around to tidying that up a bit I may make it publicly available so others can do the same). The floor, roof, steps and pilings are all remixes of things I found on Thingiverse – thanks so much, great textures and work I could not achieve or improve upon, (apologies as I could not remember or find where I got the floor from). Roof - https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3605794 Pilings - https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4658024, https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4085136 These were printed at 0.2 Resolution with 10% infill (for speed). Any imperfections in the print added to the overall feel of the hut in my opinion. Thanks to all the Thingiverse community – a great place to share creativity and its nice to put a little something back.
