Sir Peter Paul Rubens was a renowned Flemish Baroque painter born on June 28, 1577. He was a strong advocate for an opulent Baroque style that highlighted dynamic movement, vibrant colour, and seductive sensuality. Rubens is widely recognized for his masterful Counter-Reformation altarpieces, captivating portraits, breathtaking landscapes, and thought-provoking history paintings of mythological and allegorical subjects. In addition to running a large studio in Antwerp that produced highly sought-after paintings among nobility and art collectors throughout Europe, Rubens was an erudite humanist scholar and diplomat who received knighthood from both Philip IV of Spain and Charles I of England.
