Rubber Band Powered Flying Thing 2

To enhance performance, the trailing edge of the airfoil was slightly thickened in this version, preventing strand separation observed in the original design. It can fly approximately 40 to 50 feet with two linked rubber bands. The macro file mk_flyer_rounded_101026a.mac generates the geometry for one airfoil, meshes it, and replicates it to 360 degrees in ANSYS. Another ANSYS macro, ansys_2_stl_101012a.mac, converts the mesh into a .stl file when used with thing:4421. Instructions for launching with rubber bands can be found in thing:3257, along with a picture demonstrating the technique. Caution: not suitable for children without adult supervision. Lastly, see the image showing an automated build platform producing these flyers.
