This consists of a compact case and a versatile hinge for mounting a GLCD Full-Graphic display module by RepRapDiscount. The hinged mount is specifically designed to work with the MakerFarm i3v printer, consisting of a wood frame and aluminum v-rail channels. The hinge attaches to the electronics side of the i3v frame by replacing the uppermost M5x12 v-rail attachment screw with a longer M5x16 screw. An optional second mounting hole is provided for those who prefer to drill another hole in the printer frame and have access to an extra M5 nut plate. Using this mount on the i3v allows the use of short ribbon cables between the GLCD and the printer electronics, isolating them from other wiring. The GLCD mount is designed to work with the Printbus MakerFarm i3v Smoothieboard frame at http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:816676. Due to physical conflicts, it's not compatible with the RAMPS electronics installed on the 8-inch MakerFarm i3v printer. However, its compatibility with other printer sizes or electronic suites remains unknown. The hinge consists of two pivot arms interconnected with an M4 screw, a spring, and an M4 locknut. Orientation ridges in the pivot arms help the hinge self-orient to 0 and 90 degrees. A spring allows the hinge to rotate through orientation ridges while also providing pressure on the ridges when holding its position. The hinged mount lets the GLCD rotate rearward for side viewing, storage, or forward-facing access to the GLCD SD card reader. The GLCD case mounts to the hinge using a single M4x40 (or longer) screw and an M4 locknut captured in the GLCD case. This setup allows for adjustable vertical viewing angles of the GLCD screen. Adding a thin mylar shim between the hinge and the GLCD case will ensure smooth rotation of the viewing angle. Optional spacers can be printed to ensure proper spacing between GLCD circuit boards as mounting screws are tightened. An optional rear panel cover is provided for use with the GLCD case. The case has holes for up to M3 hardware, but it's intended to work with M2.5 screws to allow flexibility in aligning screws with engagement holes at the front of the case. M2.5x12 screws with a washer are recommended if no rear panel is used. M2.5x16 screws without a washer are suggested for use when a rear panel is present. The GLCD Mount for MakerFarm i3v is heavily modified from the Double Hinged 12864 Full Graphics LCD Frame (http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:626307) by enif. Revisions include improvements in fitment, file structure and commenting for clarity, added encoder shaft exposure for knob compatibility, hinge redesign for rear rotation instead of downward, mount modifications for use with MakerFarm i3v printers, and added provisions for a rear cover. The assembly should be inspected for proper alignment between circuit boards. Some force may be required to align the Printbus GLCD boards properly. The length of screws used to attach the GLCD to the front panel is crucial to prevent them from bulging or bursting through. I opted not to include a spring on the rotation joint between the hinge mount and the GLCD frame. Instead, I added a mylar washer between the two and tightened the bolt until the rotation angle would hold. The length of M4 bolts required for the 0/90 hinge depends on the spring used. I currently use an M4x40 screw. With Smoothieware, the tactile pushbutton can be configured in various ways. To make it more functional, I replaced the OEM short stem switch with a longer one that sticks through the front panel of the frame. I used a TE Connectivity part number 2-1825910-7 switch with a 9mm stem from Mouser.
