Human: Third stage in evolution of RR-Evo - improving hot-end fastening. Previous steps: RR-Evo Delta 3D Printer - [E1] plywood version RR-Evo Delta 3D Printer - [E2] upgraded with Rostock parts Description My all-metal Chinese hot-end is simple, featuring PTFE tubing that passes through the centre of a heating block. The heat sink shape is a cylinder with an outer diameter of 20 mm and a length of approximately 45-50 mm. I decided to fasten it in two points - bottom and top (or near top) ends of the cylinder. My goal was to minimize any possible deflection that could occur when it's fastened at one end far from its centre of gravity. Other requirements included saving some height of build volume by placing the heating block close to the platform, reusing the same 40x40 mm fan, and making everything compact. At each evolution stage, my printer has always had a platform compatible with Rostock's one (I mean its height, central, and mounting holes), so this thing can be used on other compatible printers. Parts The thing consists of three printed parts: v2_mount, v2_nozzle, and v2_clamp. The top and bottom parts are glued together to form the assembly. V2_clamp is used to hold the hot-end in place on top and also wires passing to the heating block. The fan is a construction element that gets screwed onto the mount posts, making the whole assembly very sturdy. One also needs m3 screws of appropriate length, nuts, and washers to fixate the thing on the platform. Print settings All parts were printed with ABS using a 0.2 mm layer height. I usually use an infill setting of 50 - 62% for this sort of part. The top part (v2_mount) requires support. After more than two years of use, I haven't found any issues with this part.
