To use stepper-based extruders with MakerBot firmware, as described on http://wiki.makerbot.com/Stepper-driven-extruder, transform skeinforge G-code to translate M108 S (PWM speed) codes into M108 R (RPM) codes. To automate this process, use a skeinforge plugin called rpmify.py. Locate the appropriate version for your skeinforge and rename it rpmify.py; follow in-file instructions to place and configure the plugin. If your version isn't available, contact lenbok@gmail.com or provide an updated version yourself.
