rp3d Pangu i3 Extruder Mount for Chinese All Metal J-Head (e3d clone)

Here's a modification of the standard direct drive J-Head extruder mount that comes with the cheap rp3d Pangu i3 from Aliexpress. The J-Head originally designed for is quite expensive and not commonly found on Aliexpress, which sells much cheaper all-metal hot ends that claim to be e3d v5 clones - they're also known as J-Heads. The mounting collar on this clone J-Head is slightly different in size, making it unfit for the original mount. Moreover, I'm not too fond of the two loose screws that hold the original J-Head into place. This modification offers a solid clip-in mount with a secondary component to retain the extruder if needed. In my case, the fit is quite tight, and I suspect you could omit the retaining piece entirely. The retention holes are 3mm in diameter, allowing for self-tapping M3 screws - it's worth noting that they may still shrink slightly if used without care. Please remember to update your z stop as well because this new extruder adds some length. After putting it through the paces, I'm happy to report that everything works smoothly as expected - it appears you can indeed omit the retaining clip if you don't mind a super tight fit. To ensure optimal results, keep your fan at 100% at all times unless you've got an external fan cooling your heatsink directly (which is also highly recommended).
