Royal Shield
thingiverse
A life-size replica of the Royal Shield or Royal Guard Shield from The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild measures 800mm in height and 460mm in width, unless scaling it differently. What's Provided There are several files included, all based on the same model: RoyalShield_FullThick.stl: A one-piece model with a minimum thickness of 20mm. RoyalShield_FullThin.stl: A one-piece model with a minimum thickness of 1.3mm. RoyalShield_TopQuarter.stl: One of the top quadrants of the FullThin model. RoyalShield_BottomQuarter.stl: One of the bottom quadrants of the FullThin model. RoyalShield.f3d: A Fusion 360 file which the STLs were created from, in case modifications are desired. The quarter pieces are ready-to-print parts for large printers such as the CR-10. The one-piece parts are useful if a different split is preferred. Design The reason the model was designed to be very thin is to minimize printing time and material cost while maintaining strength by minimizing air gaps between front and back walls. Thin wood slats on seams will reinforce the back of the shield, with possible fiberglass reinforcement. A custom thickness (between 1.3 and 20mm) may be available upon request. However, limited time constraints may restrict satisfaction of needs. Printing These are the settings used for printing: speed and material amount were valued over strength since the shield is intended for display purposes. For play or higher damage likelihood, these settings will not suffice. The shield was printed at 90% scale as it seemed too large at full size. Printer: CR-10S Nozzle Width: 0.60mm (non-standard for this printer) Filament: Paramount 3D PLA – Iron Red Temperature: 210 for nozzle, 55 for bed Layer Height: Generally 0.32mm, dropped to 0.16mm for the overhanging section near the top of TopQuarter Layer Pattern: Vase mode with 5 solid bottom layers Print Speed: Minimum 15 seconds per layer due to lack of cooling fan Adhesion: A wide skirt was taped to the bed Total Print Time: Approximately 20 hours for the entire shield. Attribution Original design for the Royal Shield and Royal Guard Shield is property of Nintendo. This model may be used for non-commercial purposes.
