Royal Potty Deflector

Royal Potty Deflector

9 years ago we got this "Royal Potty" from Fisher Price for our daughter and it came with a useless deflector thing, now our boy needs it! The original one is nowhere to be found so I made a replacement. It works great! Print Settings Printer Brand: MakerBot Printer: Thing-O-Matic Rafts: No Supports: No Infill: 90 Notes: Printed at 90% infill just to keep it strong. How I Designed This Trace2SCAD saved the day! The deflector slot had a unique shape, like a mushroom cap or weird rounded triangle. Since I'm not great at 3D modeling, I thought, could I create a 3D model from a picture? It turns out I could! Picture of where the deflector goes I took the picture as flat as possible without any fancy tools just my phone. Then I opened it in GIMP and made a fuzzy select of the white area, inverted it, and created the shape I needed after a few degrees of rotation. Just the shape Next, I used the awesome trace2scad utility by Henry Gordon Dietz found here: http://aggregate.org/MAKE/TRACE2SCAD/. I didn't use any parameters probably could have saved some render/slice/printing time using the -e option but it worked fine and I was in a rush! From there, I just did some simple openscad stuff to size it correctly hollowed it out added a top and finally a lip in the middle to stop it from going all the way through the slot. @techreport{trace2scad20150104, author={Henry Gordon Dietz}, title={{Trace2SCAD: Converting Images Into OpenSCAD Models}}, month={January}, year={2015}, institution={University of Kentucky}, howpublished={Aggregate.Org online technical report}, URL={http://aggregate.org/MAKE/TRACE2SCAD/}
